Deep Space Objects is a cassette label based in Chicago, IL. It was created to provide a platform for underground artists of experimental electronic music genres to publish without concern about what is currently popular and marketable. It is an opportunity to create music for a larger audience without needing to compromise creative expression for profit or popularity. Artists publishing with DSO are often disenchanted with the state of the music industry and just want to produce music for music’s sake.
In addition to curating underground music, DSO is proud to provide a safe space for expression of all ideas and identities, firmly rooted in the ideals of equality, fairness, and tolerance. A significant portion of the DSO community is made up of members of the LGBT community as well as those from ethnicities and nationalities frequently underrepresented in the electronic music scene. As the label continues to grow, we hope to include artists from many different backgrounds, allowing DSO to provide an experience offering differing perspectives and ideas that challenge what we are comfortable with and what we understand about our vast, expansive universe.
DSO was formed in early 2016 by Anuj Girdhar. He is joined by footwork/braindance pioneer Lilium Kobayashi (ex. Ultrademon) as A+R, and the elusive Jessup Volquist as PR and media specialist.
